Our Lady of Visitacion School

It all started when…

Our Lady of the Visitacion is located in the Visitacion Valley district, next to the largest housing project in San Francisco. This K to 8th grade school seeks to help its students find an alternative to the poverty surrounding them by providing a nurturing learning environment. Volunteers must have a college degree, or related life/work experience and interest in education.

Current needs: Teacher Aide / Therapeutic Shadow / VSC Development & Student Support

Teacher Aide The VSC West member will assist classroom teachers with general classroom duties including working with reading and math groups, working with students in small groups or individually. Teacher aides are intended to help students acquire intellectual, social, physical and emotional skills appropriate to their level of maturity and to enable students to appreciate themselves and others as children of God participating in a faith community. Therapeutic Shadow The Therapeutic Shadow volunteer will attend classes with a specific group of children and assist them with learning positive coping skills, and implement a positive behavior modification program catered to a child’s specific needs. The Therapeutic Shadow with work collaboratively with teachers and staff to accomplish mutual goals for the children in the classroom. They will also meet with the onsite School Counselor to discuss cases and monitor progress. For a full description, click here.

VSC Development & Student Support The VSC Development & Student Support volunteer will work under the mentorship of the Fundraising and Volunteer Coordinator, coordinating fundraising events with the Parent Teacher Group and School Administration; assist with student clubs and groups; and work in the communications arena, among other areas.
